  1. Once upon a time, in a pretty little cottage near a deep green wood, there lived a small girl.
  2. Her name was Little Red Riding Hood.
  3. One day her mother said to her, …
  4. … “Grandmother is not feeling well.
  5. I’ve made some cookies and I want you to take them to her.”
  6. Little Red Riding Hood kissed her mother good-bye, took the basket of cookies and started for Grandmother’s house, which was on the other side of the woods.
  7. She sang little sings and gathered wild flowers as she walked through the cool green forest.
  8. It was a fine day and Red Riding Hood felt very happy.
  9. Suddenly Red Riding Hood heard a big voice.
  10. She looked up and there standing in the middle of the path she saw a huge wolf.
  11. “Where are you going this fine day with your basket?” he asked Red Riding Hood.
  12. “I am taking cookies to my grandmother who is sick”, said Red Riding hood.
  13. “You are a good little girl,” said the wolf as he disappeared into the bushes.
  14. But instead of going his way he ran quickly through the woods straight to the home of grandmother.
  15. The wolf knocked on the door.
  16. “Who is it?” Grandmother called.
  17. “It is I, Grammy, Little Red Riding Hood”, the bad wolf answered in a little girl voice.
  18. “Come in child” Grandmother said.
  19. The wolf rushed into the room, pushed Grandmother into the closet and locked the door.
  20. He found a nightie and cap, put them on, and jumped into bed.
  21. Soon Red Riding Hood came to the door and knocked.
  22. “Come in child,” said a husky voice.
  23. “What a deep voice you have Grandmother”, said Red Riding Hood.
  24. “I have a bald cold”, said the wolf.

  30. “All the better to eat you with,” said the wolf.

  31. He sprang from the bed and rushed toward Little Red Riding Hood.

  32. She was so frightened she screamed and ran from the wolf.

  33. A woodcutter happened to be working nearby in the forest and heard Red Riding Hood calling for help.

  34. He ran into the cottage and with a quick swing of his sharp axe he cut the wolf’s head right off.

  35. Little Red Riding Hood thanked the woodcutter for saving her life.

  36. Then she let Grandmother out of the closet.

  37. Together they enjoyed the cookies and of course the wolf never bothered them again.
